Wall Street Journal reported on the difficulty the self-employed have in getting mortgages on Tuesday. Income tax returns - proof of income - are often understated by the self-employed for tax purposes because large business-related deductions are taken. Stated income loans have been eliminated in many cases. Jumbo mortgage market has tightened with emphasis on FHA loans instead and higher interest rates.
