1/13/09 - News of the Day

Theresa Runyan passed along this timely reminder on the first time homebuyers tax credit (remember we have a seminar, open to your buyers and the public, scheduled for Wednesday @ 6 pm in the Brighton office). She wrote: "it's a great way to have a reason to contact our buyers - and prospect - especially since this program is only good for a short time...(who knows, maybe they'll extend it or implement a new program similar - but for now this might create some urgency to purchase in some of our buyers)." She received the following info from an IRS tip e-mail newsletter:

First-time homebuyers should begin planning now to take advantage of a new tax credit. Available for a limited time, the credit:

• Applies to home purchases after April 8, 2008, and before July 1, 2009.

• Reduces a taxpayer’s tax bill or increases his or her refund, dollar for dollar.

• Is fully refundable, meaning that the credit will be paid out to eligible taxpayers, even if they owe no tax or the credit is more than the tax that they owe.
