1/21/09 - News of the Day

I put a poll question on the right hand side of the blog - currently our front desk does not provide a real estate agent's e-mail address if a caller requests it. Do you agree with this policy or not? Your vote counts.

According to Matt Woolsey at Forbes (1/12/09), Detroit is one of the cities where experts say it makes the most sense to buy now.

  1. Las Vegas

  2. Sacramento, Calif.

  3. San Diego, Calif.

  4. Los Angeles

  5. Detroit

  6. Phoenix

  7. San Francisco

  8. Washington, D.C.

  9. San Jose

  10. Atlanta

Scott Bohlen shared his summary of the book 212 - The Extra Degree by Sam Parker at the sales meeting on Tuesday.

  • Concept: The one degree difference in temperature can change water to boiling water that creates steam that can move a locomotive. Success has one fundamental aspect - effort. The difference between regular results and extraordinary results is some put in a little extra effort.
  • Examples: (1) During the last 10 years the Daytona 500 has been won by an average of 0.175 seconds - for the winner it means over $500,000 more in winnings and much more in endorsements. (2) During the last 6 years on the PGA tour the winner of an average tournament earned $1,000,000, 2nd place received 40% less. The average difference in victory was less than 0.4 strokes per day. (3) The difference between Michael Phelps winning 8 gold medals and being the greatest swimmer ever was a teammate touching the wall in a relay so close you couldn't tell who won.
  • Opportunity: What could you do to change your results? What should you do to change your results? What will you do to change your results?
